Bottom fishing on Maui is done with the boat sometimes anchored but usually drifting over favored near shore waters rather than venturing too far offshore. At these locations you will catch fish such as jacks, snapper, wrasse, goatfish, and more.
The fish caught bottom fishing are generally smaller than what you’d catch deep sea fishing. These fish usually weigh no more than 1-5 pounds. There is always the chance that you could hook something bigger. The chance of catching a fish bottom fishing are higher than deep sea fishing.
The inshore waters tend to be calmer, the gear lighter and the time on the water is generally shorter. This makes it much more suitable for families with children or people who have done little or no fishing.
