2016 HAWAII FISHING TOURNAMENTS SCHEDULE

 

January 1 The Charter Desk Annual New Years Day Fishing Tournament 2016

Hosted by The Charter Desk at Honokohau Marina and Small Boat Harbor, the Annual New Year’s Day Fishing Tournament will be held January 1, 2016 and is fun for the whole family.

 

June 11-12  Rock and Reel Tournament

The Hawaii Big Game Fishing Club invites you to come join the fun and excitement of our 14th Annual Rock ‘n Reel Hawaiian Open! Held in Kona Hawaii promises fun and excitement for the whole family.  This two day event held annually in June offers cash and prizes and promotes Tag & Release.

 

TBD - Kewalo Harbor Big Fish Chase 2016 

Kewalo Harbor is location of the largest marlin ever caught on Rod & Reel. This four flag event, and minimum $10,000 purse pays cash and prizes for the largest Marlin, Ahi, Ono and Mahimahi.

 

June 25-26  Kona Kickoff 2016

The Kona Kick Off is the first event in the Hawaii Marlin Tournament Series. A “Four Flags” tournament, the largest marlin earns 40% of the base purse, and the largest ahi, ono and mahi each earn 20% of the base purse. There are optional daily entries as well.

 

June 29-30  Marlin Magic Lure Tournament Kona 2016

The 2016 Marlin Magic Lures Fishing Tournament in Kona Hawaii will be held June 29-30.  For more information contact Captain Marlin Parker via his email marlinp@aloha.net

 

July 2-3 Firecracker Open 2016

Kona’s signature “Big Game” Tournament that scores ahi and marlin points for the base purse. Optional categories for the largest marlin and ahi of each day and of the two day tournament.

 

July 4  32nd Annual Blue Marlin World Cup 2016

No other big game tournament allows teams to fish anywhere in the world for 8 hours in their time zones. The World Cup is for 1 day only, for 1 species only and with 1 winner only. There is no second place in the World Cup. Won last year by Huntress

 

July 5-7 Kona Throw Down 2016

The Largest Marlin of the Tournament will be Winner Take All from the Base Entry division. Most Points will win a Free Trip to fish on the 37′ Merritt “Leilani” for 5 days from Oceanic Sport Fishing Adventures in Samoa.

 

July 8-10  Skins Marlin Derby 2016

The most unique Big Marlin competition in the world! Patterned after the golf format, the base purse is available each fishing day to the largest marlin weighing 500 lbs or more. If no one catches a marlin of that size, the day’s purse rolls over and is added to the next day’s purse.

 

July 15-17  Hawaii Lure Maker's Challenge 2016

Designed with input from the top skippers of 2010, The 2016 Hawaii Lure Makers Challenge began as the September Challenge in 2010, with minimum size fish is 400 lbs and 1st Place takes 70% of the base purse.

 

July 30  The 21st Annual Huggo's Wahine Fishing Tournament 2016

Held in Kailua-Kona Hawaii, this fun-filled fishing tournament, with prizes for the best decorated boat and best costumed team, benefits Family Support Hawaii (FSH), formally Family Support Services of West Hawaii.  In addition to the prizes for best decorated boat and best costumed team, the all-women anglers compete for cash prizes which are awarded to the teams with the biggest marlin/billfish.

 

July 30 - August 7  The 57th Annual Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament 2016

This iconic big game fishing tournament built on prestige and strict International Game Fish Association (IGFA) rules for world records starts fishing on July 30th and continues through August 7th, 2016 in Kona, Hawaii. For five days, teams fish the famous waters off the Kona coast aboard some of the finest sport fishing vessels with captains who have built reputations around the world for catching big fish.

 

August 12-14  Big Island Marlin Tournament 2016

The event that started it all off in 1986. The BIMT was the very first high stakes, big game tournament in Hawaii to pay a cash purse for tag and release. The base entry pays the top three largest marlin.

 

August 15-19 Annual Tag and Release Tournament - TART

The Pacific Blue Marlin Tag & Release Tournament (TART), now in its 26th year, promotes billfish conservation through a tag and release tournament format while educating viewers about the biology, science and habits of blue marlin and other billfish species.   The tournament format features five boats, five captains and five anglers competing over a five day span—boat to boat, captain versus captain and angler versus angler. Contestants earn points from catching, tagging and releasing Pacific Blue Marlin.

 

September 9-11 Its's a Wrap Tournament

The first annual “It’s a Wrap” Tournament will be held September 9-11, 2016 at Honokohau Harbor on the Big Island of Hawaii in Kona.  This event will follow the Hawaii Marlin Tournament Series points scoring system.  This Bonus tournament allows all teams in the running to compete for additional points.
